Before becoming a full-time freelancer in 2005 she held various positions in software development companies for over six years, but the freedom to be one’s own boss and choose the projects to tackle proved stronger than the (not-so-secure) security of being a salaried worker. Tana is mainly interested in software—namely, operating systems and networking software—though some real gems in the form of hardware also draw her attention. She is especially attracted to the ideas and achievements of open source software, and without being a fanatic (she still uses MS Windows for some of her projects), she is a passionate user of Linux and open source applications.
